Hotel Hartness Wedding Photography
There's something about Hotel Hartness that makes people drop their guard. The light is soft. The grounds are quiet. And when people stop thinking about the camera, that's when the real stuff happens. That's what I'm here for.
About the Venue
A 180-Acre Estate That Does the Work for You
Hotel Hartness sits on 180 acres at the edge of Greenville, built into the original architecture of one of the city's most prominent family homes. The preserved grounds, the pond, the grand ballroom, the gardens — they give you light and texture at every turn. And when the backdrop is doing that kind of work, you don't need to manufacture anything. You just pay attention. I've photographed a lot of weddings at a lot of venues. The ones where I come away with my favorite photos are always the ones where people feel at ease. Hotel Hartness is one of those places.
VENUE DETAILS
What You're
Working With
Every venue has its own personality. Here's what Hotel Hartness brings to your wedding day, and what that means for your photos.
300
MAX GUEST CAPACITY
The grand ballroom holds up to 300 guests, with smaller event spaces for more intimate celebrations. Intimate or grand, the light and architecture hold up either way.
180
ACRES OF GROUNDS
The estate sits on 180 acres with manicured gardens, a scenic pond, and natural preserve. That's a lot of variety for portraits — and a lot of places for quiet moments to happen on their own.
69+
SUITES ON PROPERTY
With 69 suites plus spa suites, your people can stay right there. That means getting-ready photos on-site, a first look without a parking lot, and a natural flow to the whole day.
WHY IT PHOTOGRAPHS WELL
What Makes
Hotel Hartness
Different
Not every beautiful venue is easy to photograph. Hotel Hartness is both. Here's what I've noticed working there.
-
The combination of open sky and mature trees around the property means there's almost always a soft, flattering light source nearby. Golden hour in the garden hits the way you want it to. The covered walkways and architecture give you shade without losing the warmth.
-
The hotel incorporated the original Hartness family home into its design, so the interior spaces feel layered and substantial. The great room, the bar areas, the corridor details — nothing looks like a convention center. That matters when you're shooting getting-ready and cocktail hour.
-
The ballroom, the outdoor lawn, the garden areas — you're not locked into one look. If you want the ceremony in one space and portraits in three others, it's all right there. Fewer logistical headaches means more time in the photos.
-
When your family and wedding party are all staying at the same hotel, the day flows differently. People aren't rushing off after cocktail hour. The reception tends to stretch in the best way. That's when the most honest moments happen.
-
Even though Hotel Hartness is minutes from downtown Greenville, the nature preserve makes it feel like you drove somewhere for it. That's a real thing in photos. Your guests will feel it, and you will too when you look back.
"The best photos from your wedding won't be the ones where everyone was perfectly posed. They'll be the ones where somebody forgot the camera was there. That's what I'm always looking for."

WORKING TOGETHER
What to Expect
on Your Wedding Day
I'm not showing up to Hotel Hartness to run a shoot. I'm showing up to follow your day and stay ready. Here's what that actually looks like.
01
I lead so you don't have to think
Camera-shy couples are where I do my best work. I'll give you clear, calm direction so you never feel stuck or awkward in front of the lens. Most couples tell me afterward they forgot I was there.
03
I'm chasing what's actually happening
The first look tears. The moment your dad sees you. The table that's laughing the loudest. I stay in motion so the real moments get captured while they're still happening.
02
The posed stuff is fast and easy
Family formals, your couple portraits — I handle these efficiently so they're over before anyone gets restless. Then the rest of the day is yours to actually live.
04
Your gallery will feel like your wedding
Not a version of weddings you've seen before. Yours specifically. The people, the details, the way the light looked over the pond that evening. The stuff you'll want to feel again in ten years.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Things People
Ask Me First
-
Yes. Hotel Hartness is one of the Upstate SC venues I know well. I'm familiar with where the light falls at different times of day, which spaces photograph best for portraits, and how the day typically flows on that property.
-
That's my favorite kind of couple to work with, actually. I'm good at making people forget the camera is there. Give me an hour and you'll be surprised how quickly it stops feeling weird.
-
I do, and I usually encourage them. It gives us a chance to work together before the day with actual stakes. A lot of couples are surprised by how much more relaxed they feel on the wedding day because of it.
-
The best first step is filling out the contact form so I can make sure your date is open. From there we'll have a real conversation to see if we're a good fit
-
Documentary and candid first, with clean portraits mixed in. I'm not a heavy editing, highly posed photographer. If you want your photos to feel like your actual wedding, that's what I do.
-
It depends on the scale of your day. For most Hotel Hartness weddings I'd discuss second shooter options when we talk. I want to make sure the whole day is covered the right way.
READY WHEN YOU ARE

If you've made it this far, you probably already have a feeling. That's a good enough reason to reach out. I'll get back to you fast, I won't pressure you, and I'll be honest about whether I think we're the right fit.
