Christmas on the Mountain | Cliffs at Glassy Chapel & Hotel Hartness Wedding
A Christmas Wedding at Cliffs at Glassy Chapel + Hotel Hartness | Greenville, SC Wedding Photographer
Jim and Ashley’s Christmas Wedding
Some days feel like they were made for love, and a December wedding at the Cliffs at Glassy Chapel with a reception at Hotel Hartness is exactly that kind of day. From the moment I walked into the getting-ready suite and saw the Christmas tree glowing beside a lace gown, I knew this was going to be something special.
The Zenhyes brought warmth, laughter, and a whole lot of heart to every single moment. This was a blended family doing it beautifully, inside jokes and goofy grins and a father-daughter hug that could stop the room. I was honored to document every bit of it.
Getting Ready at Hotel Hartness, Greenville SC
The bride and her girls started the morning in matching red and white polka dot robes, festive, fun, and perfectly on-theme for a December wedding. The details were impeccable: Manolo Blahnik blush heels, a pearl necklace tucked in a box labeled "With Love," and a lace gown that sparkled even on its hanger beside a gold Christmas tree. Cotton Rouge and Co had her hair pinned up and glowing by the time the robes came off.
Across the hotel, the groom was doing his thing in Hotel Hartness's stunning library suite, the one with the deep navy walls, built-in bookshelves, and that oversized abstract painting in gold and blue. He went from a sleek black shirt to a patterned vest to the full black tuxedo, pausing to share a handshake with his groomsman and a heart-melting hug with his daughters.
Hotel Hartness showed up as the perfect backdrop all morning, the warm lobby light, the moody tile bar wall, the round gold chandelier reflecting in the mirror as the bride laughed at something offscreen. If you're looking for a Greenville, SC wedding venue that photographs beautifully from every corner, this is it.
The Ceremony: Cliffs at Glassy Chapel, Landrum SC
The drive up the mountain to Cliffs at Glassy Chapel is its own experience, and then you turn the corner and see that stone chapel perched against an open winter sky, bare trees framing it like a painting, and it just hits different. On a clear December day with the Blue Ridge Mountains stretching out in every direction, there is truly no better place to get married in the Carolinas.
The bride had a beautiful moment with her father just outside the chapel, she saw him in his navy suit and pink tie, and the laugh that came out of her was pure joy. He walked her in, and the chapel held all of it.
Inside, Inn Season had transformed the space. The ceremony arch was draped in lush cedar, eucalyptus, and white blooms, white roses and calla lilies cascading in thick, lush arrangements on either side of a wooden frame. Behind the altar, the chapel's iconic glass wall opened up to miles of mountain sky. It's one of those setups where you barely have to do anything as a photographer, the light does everything.
The groom stood at the altar with his white and burgundy boutonnière, and when his bride came down the aisle, that big guy absolutely melted. The ceremony was full of laughter and real emotion, exactly the kind that makes the photographs write themselves.
The Reception at Hotel Hartness
Back down the mountain, Hotel Hartness transformed into a full celebration. Sound Choice DJs kept energy on the dance floor all night while Carolina Music Planner layered in live music that gave the whole evening an elevated, intimate feel. The cake from Kathy and Co was a showstopper, and Professional Party Rentals pulled together the rentals and linens with precision.
B&R Events coordinated the entire day seamlessly, the kind of planning that you don't notice because everything just works.
Why These Two Venues Are Made for Each Other
As a wedding photographer who has shot at both of these venues, I can tell you: this combination is unbeatable. You get the drama of a Blue Ridge Mountain ceremony, stone walls, soaring glass, panoramic views, and then you land at one of the most beautifully designed boutique hotels in Upstate South Carolina for your reception. The contrast is stunning, and the photos tell a complete story.
If you're planning a Hotel Hartness wedding or a Cliffs at Glassy Chapel ceremony, or both, I'd love to be part of your day.
