5 Of The Best Places To Take Engagement Photos in Greenville, SC
Updated for 2026!!
One of the questions I get the most is “where should we take our engagement photos in Greenville?”
The most common question I get before an engagement session is where to shoot. And my honest first answer is always the same: if you have a place that actually means something to you, start there. Where you met, where you got engaged, a friend's property with a view. A location with a real story behind it will always produce better photos than the most beautiful backdrop you could find on Pinterest.
But a lot of couples do not have that place yet, or the one they love is not practical to photograph. So here are the five locations I come back to again and again in the Upstate. These are all free, open to the public, and genuinely beautiful to work in. I have shot at each of them enough times to know exactly what they can do.

Falls Park - Downtown Greenville, SC
Falls Park is the obvious choice, and it is obvious for a reason. The Liberty Bridge, the falls themselves, the landscaping, the pockets of shade and open light throughout the park. There is enough variety in a two-hour session here to make it feel like three different locations.
What most people do not realize is how much the timing matters. The light in the hour before sunset hits the bridge and the water in a way that is hard to replicate anywhere else in the city. That is when I want to be on the bridge. Earlier in the session we work the shaded paths and the areas around the falls where the light is more even.
It gets busy on weekend afternoons, especially in good weather. If you want the park without the crowds, a weekday evening in late spring or early fall is the move.

The Furman campus is one of the most underused engagement session locations in Greenville, which is strange because it is one of the most beautiful. The Rose Garden, the lake, the bell tower, the colonnaded buildings. It photographs like a European estate and it is free and open to the public.
What makes Furman work photographically is the variety. You can move from a manicured garden to open water to architectural detail all within a few hundred yards. The light on the lake at golden hour is exceptional. If a couple wants something that feels elevated without leaving the city, Furman is where I send them.
Park near the chapel and plan to walk. Give yourself at least 90 minutes to use the space well.

3. Bald Rock Heritage Preserve
This one requires a short drive, about 45 minutes from downtown, but it is worth every minute. Bald Rock is a massive granite formation in the Blue Ridge foothills with open sky in every direction and views that extend for miles. There is nothing else in the Upstate that looks quite like it.
It is a different kind of session than what you get in the city. Couples need to be comfortable walking and open to some wind and weather variability. But the payoff is photos that feel genuinely expansive. I have done some of my favorite work up there.
The light at Bald Rock changes fast. Plan to arrive about an hour before sunset and work toward the golden hour. The hike to the main overlook is easy and takes about 20 minutes each way.

Paris Mountain is my personal favorite on this list. It is minutes from town but feels completely removed from it. Old-growth forest, trails that move through dappled light and open meadows, and enough visual variety to keep a session interesting for two hours without repeating yourself.
I love shooting here in the late afternoon. The light filters through the trees in a way that is genuinely hard to manufacture, and the quiet makes couples relax faster than almost any other location I have worked in. If a couple tells me they want something natural and unhurried, Paris Mountain is where I take them.
Wear shoes you can walk in. Leave the heels at the car and bring them for a shot or two if you want them. The trails are worth exploring on foot.

Technically this one is in Clemson, about 45 minutes from Greenville, but it earns its spot on this list. The SC Botanical Garden at Clemson University has pond views, formal garden sections, meadows, and forested paths, all within walking distance of each other. The variety of settings in a small space is genuinely hard to find anywhere closer.
This location photographs especially well in spring when the flowers are in bloom and in fall when the trees turn. If you are planning a session in either of those seasons and you do not mind the drive, it is worth making the trip.
There is no admission fee. Plan for a 90-minute session minimum to use the space well.

These are just a few of my favorites and hopefully give you some options to consider for your engagement shoot. We are so lucky to live in a state full of small towns and gorgeous locations. There are also other major cities close by like Charlotte and Atlanta, and other incredible places like Columbia, Charleston, Myrtle Beach, or Asheville, NC.
So congratulations on your engagement and rest easy knowing that there are numerous opportunities to get amazing pictures right here in your back yard.
A Few Tips Before You Book.
Pick the location based on who you are, not what looks good on Instagram.
A mountain overlook session is not for everyone. Neither is a formal garden. Think about where you actually feel comfortable and relaxed, and start there. The best engagement photos come from couples who forgot they were being photographed, not from couples performing in a beautiful location.
Timing matters more than location.
The hour before sunset is called golden hour for a reason. That is when I want to be at the best spot in whatever location we choose. We can explore and warm up earlier in the session, but I always plan to be in position when the light is right.
Wear something that feels like you.
Not a costume. Not something you bought specifically for the photos. Something you would actually wear on a nice evening out. Couples who are comfortable in what they are wearing move better, relax faster, and produce better photos. It is that simple.
